Our Senior Designer + Project Manager will lead projects from concept through installation while managing timelines, budgets, and client relationships. This role closely collaborates with and leads design team members to delegate tasks, guide deliverables, and ensure cohesive execution across all phases of a project. The ideal candidate is a self-aware, highly autonomous designer with strong leadership skills, exceptional design sensibility, and the ability to manage complex, multi-layered projects with minimal oversight.

Candidates typically bring 8+ years of experience, though significantly more experience is welcome.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Design Leadership & Execution

  • Lead overall design intent and execution across all project phases, working collaboratively with the design team and carrying projects through completion with minimal oversight by the Studio Director.

  • Demonstrate industry-leading design knowledge with innovative and creative solutions.

  • Establish design goals, vision, space planning, and furnishings budgets.

  • Lead concept development and oversee execution of design concepts.

  • Maintain responsibility for design quality, accuracy, and completeness throughout all phases.

Design Development & Documentation

  • Oversee and execute:

    • Design selections

    • Interior and furniture detailing

    • Client presentation oversight

    Provide thorough CAD/Revit redlining and ensure accuracy of drawing specifications.

  • Lead construction documentation detailing as required.

Furniture & Installation

  • Lead furniture design and detailing.

  • Oversee furniture selections and client presentations.

  • Oversee the proposal and furnishings documentation process for furnishings selections.

  • Provide leadership during installation phases to ensure design intent is executed properly.

Project Management Responsibilities

  • Set and manage internal project deadlines and schedules in alignment with BDG’s design process.

  • Establish and manage external schedules, including client-facing meetings.

  • Allocate and manage designer time on a weekly and daily basis to meet deadlines.

  • Coordinate with internal teams including Procurement and Finance to ensure overall project success.

  • Coordinate with the Finance department, monthly, for client invoicing. Oversee client invoice summaries.

  • Maintain responsibility for total project budget compliance in collaboration with Finance and billing.

  • When leading projects, ensure budget compliance across all phases.

  • Communicate regularly with architects and external consultants; coordinate decision-making as needed.

  • Resolve project conflicts proactively and efficiently.

  • Keep the Studio Director and Principal informed of issues and provide solution-oriented recommendations.

  • Demonstrate a strong personal bias toward action and accountability.

Client Interface

  • Serve as a lead point of contact for client communication.

  • Submit proposals to clients for approval.

  • Lead client presentations in a professional and polished manner.

  • Comprehend, interpret, and implement client goals with sensitivity to both business and personal dynamics.

  • Navigate situational variables with discretion and professionalism.

LEADERSHIP + TEAM DEVELOPMENT

  • Provide mentorship and direction to junior designers (DI and DII) on design and execution.

  • High EQ required to lead teams through demanding workloads and tight deadlines.

  • Accept responsibility for project challenges or discrepancies and lead teams toward resolution.

  • Manage personal workload and project time allocations independently.

  • Maintain organized worklists and follow through without oversight.

  • Participate in business development and marketing efforts by maintaining client relationships and attending industry and client events.

Schedule, Work Location, and Benefits

  • This is a full-time, 40-hour-a-week position, requiring residency in the greater Austin, TX area. Office presence is required for a minimum of 4 days a week, with other days allowing work-from-home and periodic remote work outside the region. Client schedules and unforeseen meeting changes may necessitate flexibility in the week-to-week schedule.
